July 30th Recap

We had an amazing time at our first official meetup! Our topic of the month was Self Care. We wanted to focus on the importance of taking care of yourself and provided ideas on how to do so. Most of us grew up believing that the more you sacrifice, the bigger the reward however this can be more of a threat than anything. Self care is crucial.

We started by introducing ourselves and the mission of Brown Women Collective. We recognized that we all come from different backgrounds and cultures, and that we all deal with life’s struggles differently. The purpose of July’s topic was to create conversation about how it’s okay to take time to rest and care of our mind, body, and soul.

The DIY Facial Masks were definitely a hit! It was so much fun to watch everyone laugh and prepare their own masks. If you were unable to make the event, we invite you to make your own at home! It’s very simple and will leave your face feeling super smooth.

Oatmeal Face Mask
– 2 Tablespoons of regular Oatmeal
– 2 Tablespoons of Plain Yogurt
– 3 drops of Honey

**Mix in small bowl until it turns into a cream then apply.

We ended the day with filling out our Self Care Plan which allowed us to touch on physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual areas of our lives. We talked about some of the things we do or would like to do for ourselves. Writing these ideas down not only helps us reflect but also serves as a reminder to do them. All in all it was a wonderful event and we can’t wait for our next one! Keep any eye out for our the August date which we will be touching on Self Reflection!
